This thread is for the submittal of programs to be considered for the
2006 Pricelessware List.

Description: PC INSPECTOR File Recovery is a data recovery program that supports the FAT 12/16/32 and NTFS file systems. Finds partitions automatically, even if the boot sector or FAT has been erased or damaged (does not work with the NTFS file system). Recovers files with the original time and date stamp. Supports the saving of recovered files on network drives. Recovers files, even when a header entry is no longer available. NOTES: To be able to use PC INSPECTOR File Recovery 3.x you need a working WINDOWS System. Never install the current version on the drive from which you intend to recover data! The software must be installed and run on a second, independent drive.

erm. . . that's the way the rules are set up.

Program descriptions can still be posted. The sooner the better - it
takes time to add info to the database and post updates to the list of
eligible programs. IOW - don't wait till the last day or two of the

Hm. Okay, I'll have a look at the current list, then. It's a bit
difficult to find programs which stand a chance to get at least
*some* votes. Most tools I like wouldn't probably get a second,
even. ;-)

And if I find something which *might* be of greater interest, it
seems to be doomed to go Shareware right before or after my
decision. (Like µBook last year and iMediaMan this year.) :-(

Anyone else have a problem installing this version? I get Component
Transfer Error:

Component: Hauptanwendung
File Group: Programmdateien
File: H:\Program Files\PC Inspector File Recovery\
Error: Access is denied.

I had a verion 4 already installed but thought this might be a later
build. First attempt to install it asked if I want to uninstall the
program, which I did. Then I tried to install it again, and got this
error.

Uninstalled previous version and deleted program Files folder, but the
error repeats each retry. Re-downloaded it; no change. I'll send them
an e-mail.

Have a look at the license for the current version you are using. If
redistribution is allowed it is a safe nomination. We'll identify it
as a last freeware version and find a place to archive it.

That would be a possibility for µBook. But there are free alternatives
like yBook and eTextReader available which are still under active
maintenance and development. Btw.: µBook got only 3 Votes last year...

Nominating the iMediaMan program would lead to a cul-de-sac. It gathers
information from Amazon. They often change their access scheme. So the
update function of iMediaMan would be useless someday (maybe in near
future). That's not an option one can accept for a media database...
