"page cannot be displayed..." at some secure websites

A

Anne

I am running XP Home and use IE6. Recently I have been
unable to access my secure banking site.
The other computer in my study can access it - the two
computers are networked.
After talking with my bank's technical support and with my
ISP (adelphia cable), with no help, I found a KB article
that suggested that my user profile was corrupted.
I had trouble deleting the profile at first but was
successful after I performed a Restore which put me back
to before I had downloaded some MS updates. I deleted the
profile and spent way too much time restoring my settings
for the new profile - but success, I was able to access
several previously unaccessible secure websites.
Unfortunately this only lasted a few days. HELP

Had the same problem and just now solved it after entirely
too many frustrating trials. Try this. In your Client
machine (the one that doesn't connect to your bank)right
click on IE icon. Click "Properties". Click "Connections"
tab. Click "LAN Settings" button. Click "Advanced" button.
In the HTTP Proxy box you will see a number somewhat like:
192.168.0.1. Copy your number exactly and enter it in the
blank(?) "Secure" box. Next copy the "Port" number in the
HTTP box to the empty Port box in the Secure line. You
should now have two identicle number series in this
screen. Press OK, OK, OK, make sure you restart IE and try
your bank again.
This worked for me and I hope that it does for you too.
Good luck.
