Hi, I recently bought a used emachine computer and it has Winxp and an
Intel wired adapter in it. I tried to hook this up to another computer
on my home network which has a dlink 530tx network card and neither
computer can see each other. Ran the network wizard on both machines I
can see that both are hooked up via the hub lights and still nothing.
This setup uses a cat5 setup I have used for years between a win98 and a
win95 computer the workgroup names are the same. I dunno what the
problem could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris,

Windows XP comes with a lot of security devices, so start by checking for a
misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other security component.
There are several other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your
problem. Read this article with an open mind.

But with Windows 98 and Windows XP, you probably have a master browser conflict
too.
