so why contribute to the debate then - why not do as tramp does = post
links and reviews, rather than your views on what *I* view as an
important matter.

Apologies - just saw the tend of posts you have made to balance the
group.

I am sure some will find it useful

cheers

|why not do as tramp does = post
|links and reviews

Hi,

Just a minor correction. 99% of the time I am not posting reviews. All I
am posting is are the descriptions right from the websites. I usually
don't bother with reviews for the following reasons

1. What works for me might not work for someone else. In both features
and/or computer systems.
2. People use the same program for different reasons. IrfanView for
example might be used by some to create slide shows. Others might use it
mostly for conversion.
3. I don't download/test most of the software that I post about. I don't
have an interest in a lot of the programs I post. All I am doing is
saying "Hey, here is a program that says it's freeware that does this"

Exactly the same here :)

I will only give comments for those I have actually used.

You don't check *anything*? So, you're saying that if a website says it
has a freeware program to download you don't check the integrity of that
statement. You just post it's location.

These floods should carry a *use at your own risk* disclaimer. Because
you guys know absolutely nothing about these programs. You should at
least say something about that at the beginning of your post.

I totally agree with RL and Tramp; that's the way I've been doing it. So
far no one has any issues with it. If we post something that someone *HAS*
used then more than likely we'll get comments on how good or bad it is.

Why? Freeware, like all programs, is use at your own risk.

You've posted links to programs that are later found *not* to be
freeware.
You aren't providing a "service" here if anyone interested in your links
has to investigate whether it's actually freeware or not.

That's correct most of the time. It's not my responsibility to do
otherwise. People are responsible for what they download and install. If
after going to a site I post they chose to download a program that's on
them. They have the same information that I have as I copy the info
right from the site. I'm not here to do testing of programs, write
reviews, or rate download speeds for other people.

This is what Tramp has done for a long time. Shareware. adware,
spyware, &c. make it into his floods. He was once convinced to
include a disclaimer[1] to that effect, but has since then dug in
his heels on the issue, claiming it's all freeware to him.

Many people have tried over the years to convince him not to do
things the way he does; if you're going to try it, I wish you luck.

For me, I try my best to check...but sometimes it is hard.
For example, I remember one piece was freeware and all of the
sudden it has changed into shareware. The site looks the same
(and I used the program a while ago), but when one click on
the link it leads you to pay.

Another example is that TechPro, it looked quite good at its
first glance, I even downloaded it and installed it myself and
didnt know that it would nag you a little bit until someone
here actually pointed it out.

I am sure we'd all try our best to dig out real goodies. Yet
from time to time, something dim to go wrong, even just by
propability (for me, I found that sometimes 1 out of 10 could
go wrong). I guess one of the good thing in this group is
that everyone who read the posts could also help to check,
give us a heads up and post it here, too.

I'm not going to try to convince them to do anything different; I try
not to *intentionally* argue with walls. :)
I just wanted to be clear on what it is they're posting. They're just
throwing everything out and seeing what sticks. Oh, well... they're
posts are easily avoided.

| Shareware.

No fully true. I never knowingly posted something that was shareware.

I notice you don't say the same about the other kinds of your posts I
mentioned, adware and spyware. Do you mean to imply that you have
knowingly posted those?

FWIW, neither in this post or others have I said that you post anything
knowingly.

Of course, NTMOM ("not that my opinion matters" <g>) Just a
little suggestion ...I most of the time with go to Google to
check if the ones I mentioned had been posted here before.
Sometimes they have been posted before, says, about a couple
mouths ago, and I won't post them; Sometimes it had been
mentioned more than a year ago, mentioning them ago would be
good because new folks here might not know them. And
sometimes knowing that their program still get download would
motivate those authors to make it better, too. Just my 2
cents :0)

It's that effort in good faith that makes your posts
worthwhile.

Thanks :)

[I still don't get what happens with that piece called
"Karaoke Everything". It is very unique and I download it and
no call home behaviors I found at all, it is also listed in
snapfiles, somehow someone report spyware on it.... What a
pity...you know how hard to find Karoke program that would do
mp3 and other file formats :-( ]

I assume you mean Karaokeanything

http://www.karaokeanything.com/

Doesn't call home; the site says no adware/spyware and the latest
reference file for adaware reports nothing...

Looks OK to me
