Any Paypal option for contributing?

Any Paypal option for contributing?

I've never had any dealings with Paypal, but I have read some pretty
bad things about it, such as keeping funds for months before tendering
them to the intended person. I'm pretty sure a fee is charged also.

If you are not in the states I can check into the possibility of
exchanging currency at the local banks or cashing international
checks.

Has anyone reading ever used Paypal to collect funds? Maybe it's not
as bad as the things I've read about it.

I *think* one time I ran into an author site that doesn't use
paypal but use some British or Europe company. I wonder if
there are any other alternative other than Paypal that can be
recommanded.

I will try not ramble but I REFUSE to do business with Paypal ever
again.

I once had a closet full of older mobile phone and PC parts. My
lovely wife asked me to clear it out. I figured, OK, E-Bay looks good.
I set up an E-Bay account and a PayPal account. I sold and bought many
things. Life was not bad. Fee's nickel and dimed you to death, though.

It was a bummer waiting on checks from E-Bay, so I set them up to
direct deposit to my bank account. Sounded good, the process made
sense. I got my funds much quicker now. That was ok for a little while
until..."the PayPal Fiasco" happened.

My wife checks our online bank account every day (she had a huge fear of
lost funds....) and after checking it one day, she called me and asked
if I authorized a PayPal debit of "Fifteen Fifty". I told her no and
she acted a bit alarmed. I told her to be calm, it was less than $20
and I would contact them the next day. She said, "You do not
understand, $1,550! DO SOMETHING!"

WTF???

I logged on to Paypal and it showed "I" had "authorized" a transaction
of $1550 to someone I hade never heard of. Paypal is done via e-mail so
I contacted the person to ask them to send it back to me to correct the
error. He refused. He told me that I was scamming him. Long story made
short(er), Paypal acted like it was nothing. My bank account was short
$1550, checks were going to bounce and I was very worried. PayPal told
me they would send me "some forms" to fill out and have notorized. They
froze my account and the recipients account. They told me a scam was
going on and I needed to change the PW on my account immediately.

About that time, I get an e-mail from the "recipient" asking we WTF was
going on, that his account was frozen and wanted me to fix it. I had
tried to get him to fix it by sending me the money he had in his account
fraudulently but he refused, so I did what I could. He e-mailed me all
the time, we chatted on the phone (he was a"lawyer" from NYC) and he
ranted and raved and threatened (some lawyer...). I then went to my
bank to see what they could do and they started a fraud file.

Within 7 days, I had my money back in my PayPal account, which I then
moved back to my bank account (that was done in a few days). Paypal
never gave me any explaination why this happened. Anytime money is
moved from your Paypal account, an e-mail is generated to you, but none
was generated for the ORIGINAL $1550 transaction. It was on all other
transactions, but not that one. The "lawyer" e-mailed me and his
account was shorted an ADDITIONAL $1550 and he wanted to do something
about it. I asked why I should do...I did not have his money. He said
it was all my fault, since my money ended up in his account in the first
place. I finally got it all resolved and never talked to him again.

I closed my Paypal account as well as my E-Bay account. I will never
use PayPal again.

I did come to find out that the guy's account that my money was put into
was a "shell" account he set up for a business venture with a Web based
finance company. He opened the account, "gave" the finance company
access to it and they used it as a repository for various funds. When I
learned this, I was very suspicious, thinking this sounded like money
laundering of some type. That company had a web presence but they do
not any more.

Very suspicious.

Several of my friends that heard about this said "you must have
responded to that PayPal hoax going around, asking for personal info
from it's members." ME? Captain Snopes? NEVER! Best I can see, this
was an inside job. Nothing else makes sense. I never give out PW. If I
get an e-mail from a company, I look up that companies phone number and
call them. I never give that info out.

Ok, I completely hijacked this thread. Sorry about that...Just so you
are aware. I know my buddies use PayPal and do not have major issues,
but I did. Word to the wise.

Is there an Alliance Credit Union in Branded's City? It is a U.S.
company that now operates in Canada, and they bought out the CU that my
dad and I dealt with for 30+ years. We can contribute directly to the
account, if Branded opens a trust account.

A Premier or Business account would be needed - Paypal charges a fee for
each credit card transaction - probably not a good option. . .

International postal money orders work well. . .
sending cash (in small amounts) works well and is easy to do. . .

[scary Paypal experiences snipped, please go to the parent
post to see them]

scary.....I never trust Paypal. Once I wanted to set up an
account so to do some transactions oversea, then I just stop
there at the place that I need to give out my real back
account. I always feel very comfortable to put that kind of
information out there on the internet. If I am ever going to
HAVE to use Paypal because I am forced to, I will definitely
open a seperate bank account just for that, never would use my
daily life account if possible.

concerning Paypal.

REMbranded asked me to add his address to the web page to make it
easier to mail contributions for future domain and hosting costs.

Yes, thank you REMbranded, for making yourself available to the group in
a way that hasn't been done before.
The cost of the web site is low. Please send "small" donations (a
dollar or two).

These costs have been covered for *at least* the next three years,
thanks to generous donations. :)

Pricelesswarehome.org is poised to continue to reflect the
alt.comp.freeware group.
