IE 6 Slow updating

sailmon

I am running IE6 on 98 SE. After opening a few pages this occurs when
clicking on a link, or after inputting information (like on autotrader),
going to a new page, etc. -- There will be a several second delay before the
data or new 'click' starts any activity. The new page will download quickly
and then freeze for 8 to 20 seconds (if progress bar is shown it will be
frozen in the 'completed' postion; i.e. the bar will have moved all the way
to the right. During the 'freeze', you cannot scroll or input data, though
the attempted inputs will be saved and multiple scrolling will happen all at
once when unfrozen. I run Spyware and Adaware. Don't know of any accidental
settings I've changed though it's possible I did. Netscape runs fine on the
same machine.... Hope someone has some advice... (Jan - I hope your
listening).... Thanks.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.

In addition to the excellent information Frank has provided for you, if that
does not resolve your problem, you might also try the two suggestions below
and see if they will help.

Go to Tools at the top tool bar.
Choose Internet Options on the menu.
On the General page, click the Delete Files.
Check Delete all offline content
Click OK
On the Internet Options dialog, click on Delete Cookies.
Click OK
Click OK to close out

REPAIR INTERNET EXPLORER:

Be sure and disable your anti-virus program.

Method 2 in this article works on earlier versions of Windows.

and

If you have not already done so, then you might try a repair of IE6 as

Hope this helps.
