Hyperlink to word template

I have hyperlinks on my intranet to word templates. (I am using FP 2002) When I ctrl+click on the hyperlinks in NORMAL mode, a new document opens based on the template in a new window (as I want it to). However, when I go to PREVIEW mode and click on the hyperlink, it opens the template itself rather than a new document.

I want users to be able to click the hyperlink on the intranet and open a new document based on the template. Can someone please steer me in the right direction?

Try it in "Preview in browser."
It "should" do what you want.

In Preview, FrontPage is treating as a word
document to edit so that's how it opens it.

Steve, I tried again in "preview in browser" and it still opens the template itself. Any other ideas?

But isn't it opening the document in Word,
inside the browser window??

This is normal. "at least I think it is"

Unfortunately, Teresa, about the only option you have if you want your users
to use a Template to create a document is to have them sdave the Template to
their Templates directory and then use Word separately to create a document.
Remember, we're talking about a web browser here, not the MS Word
application. A web browser downloads files; that it is its primary function.
Its secondary function is to display those files which it can. If the user
has Word on their system. it will open Word documents, one of which is a
Template (*.dot) file. To create a new file from a Template in Word, you
don't open the Template; you tell Word to create a new document based upoin
that Template. This is a function of Word, not the web browser. Since the
web browser is downloading the file, and it is a .dot file, and Word is
installed on the client machine, it will therefore open the Template in
Word.

Steve, it is opening the document in word in the browser window which is "normal." I guess I am wanting it to do something abnormal because I don't want the original document to be opened

Kevin, currently each of our users has the template downloaded, but our objective is to have them access the template from a single location (intranet) so that we don't have to have everyone download a new version when changes are made to the original.

Hi

I have a similar problem. I developed the templates in Word using VBA
Code to bring up a form and when the user click on OK on the form, it
performs a mail merge. It all works perfectly through Word. The
Internet side of the project has been developed by another company who
states that the hyperlink (to this template) opens the template and the
form on their site. However, when we use the hyperlink on our Intranet
site, it opens the .dot file and does not bring up the form. How can
I get it to show the form even if it is in the template itself?

Thank you
Renee

The Internet does not support VBA running from any MS O app
- create your form in FP
