Hyperlink opening Word Templates

I have built a small company intranet. I've built it on my local drive and
publish to a network drive.

The site includes a number of hyperlinks to launch documents in Word. I have
saved the files as a Word Template in the web file.

The problem is that when a user clicks on the hyperlink, the original
document TEMPLATE opens in Word... whereas I want a copy of the document to
open.

Actually it is a "copy" that opens, "served" by the server. A visitor / viewer can not alter the
document on the server, they can only view it.

Steve,

Thanks for your response. However it doesn't solve my problem... I'm aware
of the theory that Frontpage opens a "copy"... however on my site atleast,
when one opens the copy you can save it on itself... so the next time you
click on the link to open the same document it comes up amended. It also
comes up amended if I open it on someone else's PC, but NOT amended if I
refer back to FrontPage and the unpublished version.

I guess what I'm trying to achieve is the ability to click on a hyperlink,
that opens a fresh copy of the Word document with the name Document1 or
Document2, etc... NOT the name of the document.

Although I'm good on Word/Excel/PPT... I'm self-taught and new to FrontPage,
so I might have done something pretty basically wrong. I think I'm going to
go back to the basics of how I've inserted the document into FrontPage to see
if I've put the "template" into FrontPage incorrectly.

Is this happening on a document that's published to and being viewed via an http:// address in a
browser from a remote server??

Or is it happening when viewed / edited on another computer on an intranet??

Hi Steve
I'm using the Publish Web function. We are publishing to a network drive on
Small Susiness Sever 2003. I think I must have inserted the template
incorrectly into FrontPage... just trying to work it out.
Thanks

Sorry, just reading your message again... and I didn't answer your question
in full... the second part... yes, this is all happening on a company
intranet... and it happens either on my PC (which is working in Frontpage and
publishing to the server) or on other user's PCs who are just accessing the
published version on the network.

Ok, that's the issue. On a network drive the file is treated just like any other shared file.
a couple of options:
set the file to "read only" ( might do it )
or "serve" the web from a server such as IIS.

Thanks Steve... I'll see if our IT guys can do anything better with the
server. Thanks again for you help.
