Launching an Application

Our agency has intranet web pages available for staff training & reference, etc. Is it possible to insert a hyperlink into an html document that when opened on our intranet would launch an application. More specifically, I want staff to be able to click on a link that opens a Microsoft Word template. I don't want the Word template to open within the Intranet window, but launch a new application of Word on their screen, even if they already had Word open. Thank you so much!

You can use an ActiveX control for this, such as Intralaunch.
