File and Settings Transfer Wizard Problem

Ok, I've used FAST Wizard on several occasions because I'm in the process of
upgrading all the systems in our company. Out of 150, I've got about 30
left...fun!

Ok, so, I've just build a new P4 2.8GHz system with Windows XP SP2 installed
along with your normal office apps (Office 2003, MSN Messenger, etc). The
old system is a Windows 2000 Professional SP4. Now, when I run FAST on the
new PC, it asks if this is the new or old PC...of course I choose new. I go
to the old PC and run FASTWIZ.EXE on XP CD and I'm never prompted as to the
status of the PC (i.e. old or new) nor does it give me the option to use the
network as my transfer media.

Now, I tried several alternatives like using a cross cable hoping the two
systems would see each other...nope. I plugged them both into a Netgear
switch and disconnected that switch from our network. That didn't work. I
then kept all of this the same and released and "tried" to renew the IP
knowing I would get a no network connection IP address (169.X.X.X) and then
tried to connect via the switch...nada.

I disabled antivirus and XP's firewall and tried those steps above
again...nothing. I'm really not sure why I can't get FASTWIZ.EXE to see the
new PC waiting for transfer and offer me the option to use home or small
offce network instead of direct cable or floppy disk. I've already am using
the option below so I'm past this issue...I'm just not sure why I can't see
this option?

"On the new machine create a FASTW disk using the CD Burner and then
use that CD in the Win98 machine to run FASTW and save the data to a
folder named \Transfer.

Install the network card in the old machine and configure the network
so that the hard drive on the old machine is shared on the network and
you can see it from the new machine.

Then run FASTW on the new machine and import the saved information
from the \Transfer folder on the old machine." (Thanks to Ron Martell :))

Any and all advice accepted and appreciated :)

Thanks!

In the xp machine you need to run the new connection wizard in internet
connections,it will guide you thru.If SP2 is installed, then also you need to
open firewall,exceptions,add the port.
