BTi? FS? *puke*

Overcome your prejudices and get AOL.

Same price as BTi/FS for 24/7 with no cut offs or restrictions. There
are work rounds for all the software limitations which AOL tries to
impose...

And AOL is reliable... none of the stop start nonsense of FS/BTi.

Overcome your prejudices and get AOL.

What makes you think I have any prejudices?
I don't recall my ever saying 'AOL *puke*'.

Work rounds? Software limitations? Impositions?

The main reason I'm still with BT is that it allows me to dial in from
any BT phone, without having to register the number - which means I
can use it from work and at home. Surprisingly few ISPs allow this.
One-tel comes pretty close.....
And AOL is reliable... none of the stop start nonsense of FS/BTi.

I can't remember when I last had a problem with BT - it's one of the
reasons I'm still with them - either I'm lucky or BT is better in this
area?

One of the reasons that AOL is the best narrow band dial up in the UK
is that it is avoided like the plague by all the oldbies.

Except those who have tried all the rest and cannot get broadband.

Most people have AOL prejudices

AOL allows this also; the snag being you have to install their stupid
software

I was with BTi when they first went 24/7 and tried them again a couple
of years ago. The connection would often go to sleep for a while.

If you are happy with your package, by all means stay with it :)

Well, 'unlimited' access over here often comes with a caveat - in my
case unlimited means 150 hours per month. They call it 'Anytime'.

Then it's not unlimited. Gotcha.
Very British eh?

That's how our cell phone deals are cut, over here, with respect to
on-air minutes, as in a monthly limit of: "500 anytime, 2000
night/weekend". You take 'em when you want 'em; but you don't exceed
'em. :) (Because past those limits, they're outrageously expensive.)

Ah right, I'm only guessing now but I'd imagine that's quite a big
snag for the average finely honed W9x setup.

Now it's funny you mention that, 'cos it sometimes does it on my work
connection, but never at my home one.
It could be down to equipment ( different modems ) or the fact that
the work connection is so far from the exchange I can't even have a
second line or ISDN. ( Broadband??? Bwahahahhaaa ).
I have to limit the speed, but then I have to limit it with Claranet,
Tiscali, and every other ISP I've tried.
If you are happy with your package, by all means stay with it :)

I'm keeping my options open...

Yes. Did no-one ever tell you this? AOL is an absolute laughing stock,
the length and breadth of usenet. See DC's response to me earlier. I
am glad to be able to educate you in this respect.

Might want to see if we can get Max to cut back on the Foster's, too,
eh? :)
All that alcohol I'm allergic to must have dulled my brain - you're
going to have to 'splain this one to me, Blinky.

I don't forsee that being an issue, but all these admails I'm getting lately
have me exploring a few interesting hardware upgrade plans.

AOL can guarantee additional hardware functionality.

I was talking about the language in the post DC had just replied to. :)

In order for the killfile to work, a few of his headers will have to be
downloaded, in particular the From headers.

Yeah, one time, big deal. If you want, I can probably cobble together
a working filter for you.

The embarrassing thing is, your post made me go back and look at mine,
and I realised that there were 2 errors in the spelling of
whakawhetainui (many thank). There was a great NZ comedian who created
a character called Abe Whakatawhainau. When said properly and fast, the
surname is indistinguishable from "f*cked if I know"
