Command failed to excecute for attachments

Not acceptable solution. Microsoft, FIX THE PROBLEM!!! I don't consider
Norton or McAfee (don't care for this myself) an unacceptable security
software. I should be able to have Norton check the attachement for virus
and then let me open it.

I may have responded to the wrong person. I don't think that Norton should
be a non-compatible antivirus program. Microsoft, FIX THE PROBLEM!

Which came first, Windows or Norton?

That's like the tail wagging the dog. :)
It's up to the app makers to make their apps compatible with the OS.
Most of the other Anti-Virus producers have no trouble doing that.

I have been running Norton forever without any problem. It just started for
me. Going to Tools, Options, Security and uchecking doesnt' do any good. It
has just started doing that with me. Am going to run a scan and if that
doesn't work, then reboot. See what happens

I installed IE8 weeks ago and just had the problem today. It is not opening
Word Documents and PDF files, so it must be more than IE8

You have my recommendation (uninstall IE8), so if you choose not to
implement that, I can't help any further.

This is working for me. I had the same problem as you were having. Right
click on the extension, click the "save as" choice. I saved mine on the
desktop to make it easy to find. Then when I tried to open it, it opened
fine. Hope it works for you

Yes, that will work, as long as you don't mind the hassle of saving them
first.
The truth of the matter is, you shouldn't have to.
Question : do you have IE8 ( internet explorer 8 ) ?
To find out : open WM > top menu bar, HELP > About MS Windows Mail > what
does it say ?
If you have IE8, you might consider un-installing it and rid the problem.
How do I uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8?

If you have IE7, try the following tutorials :

I recently received the "command failed to execute" message when I tried to
open an attachment on an e-mail that I had previously opened w/o problems.
Why is this? And what do I do to be able to open the attmnt once again?

Gary - I have unchecked the security option and I'm running Kaspersky, any
other suggestions to fix this problem. Also, why doesn't miscrosoft fix it .
.. . it's obviously a software issue?

Thanks!

To correct go to:-
Windows Mail
Tools
Options
Security
2nd Box must be blank ( do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that
could potentially be a virus)
Apparently things get changed on updates that we don't see!
If it recurs check to see iof box has become ticked again, if not come out
of windows mail and then go in again and it should be okay.

I have tried what you suggest; however, it never works. The second box is
now and has always been unchecked. The part of this thing that drives me
crazy is that sometimes I can open the attachments and sometimes not. I have
received messages from my brother and opened the attachments then forwarded
them to my wife (she used the same computer) and been unable to open the
attachments. We use the same anti-virus systems all the time. I realize
that I am technologically challenged but don't think I'm completely nuts. I
sure wish someone could solve this problem for me, and others, once and for
all. Apparently Microsoft does't think it important enough for them to take
action.

You are quoting posts that are at least 90 days old, well before the IE8
issue with attachments became prominent. It is always best to read the
latest responses first, so as to get up-to-date information.

Difficulty with opening attachments in Windows Mail is a known issue
that is affecting some who installed IE8.

If you decide to uninstall IE8, follow these instructions:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700

Instead of uninstalling IE8, another option is to upgrade
your email program to Windows Live Mail:

MSFT "fixed" Windows Mail by releasing Windows Live Mail.

Sorry, I have to disagree.

WLM is just another beast.
And it's one which I do not appreciate at all.
