And there is always a chance that reverting to betaware, as is Live Mail,
you will then be engaging on another round of 'getting tired from messing
around with repeating aggravation'.
But go ahead and be a Microsoft guinea-pig, but first read the posts in Live
Mail newsgroup.
Its users choice then.

You'll be a Microsoft guinea pig either way.
As far as I'm concerned, Windows Mail is barely beta quality.
I've had fewer aggravations with Windows Live Mail (knock on wood).

I will keep my fingers crossed re Live Mail?
If it settles down and stays at the bottom of the 'league tables' I will get
it put onto my daughter's system.
For now I think Thunderbird may be the best option.

OMG - I did this (had stuck bad messages in my outbox and couldn't send
email) and now everything is gone. Every single one of my emails is gone.
This is not good. Damn.

Did you look for a "Restored" folder. Everything should be in there.

Look in the Recovered Mail folder. If there isn't one leave WinMail open
for five minutes.

Rick,
I agree it would be nice to clear up! I have experienced the same thing you
have; without any success in deleting the message.

For messages that you can't remove from the Outbox see:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil
Please read ALL of the instructions.

For messages that you can't delete from othe folders, if you are not willing
to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both copies of the database
(which does not contain the messages, but only references to them) and let
WinMail rebuild it.
First close WinMail, then use Task Manager to make sure there are no
instances of it under applications or processes.
Then click Start | Search | Advanced Search
Check the box to include non-indexed, hidden and system files.
In the Name field type WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and click the Search
button.
It should show you two copies. Delete both of them and re-open WinMail.

Gary,

I followed your instructions in this post and it worked fine. It restored
my messages but now I have another pain. Now, everytime I open Windows Mail,
it tries to restore emails. I end up with eight or more empty folders under
the Restored Files folder. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

You're quoting from a fairly old post of mine. Much has happened since then.
Frankly I find Windows Mail too unstable to continue supporting it.
For those, like yourself, with intractable WM problems, I highly recommend
you upgrade to Windows Live Mail.

It will probably do that for a while and eventually stop. It will probably
help if you can leave it turned on for a while without actually using it.
It does the message restoring in the background, so it can't do much while
you're keeping it busy.

Hi Mike

I did what you said and I was only able to delete one of the two files. When
I try to delete the other one, it says: "The action cannot be completed
because the file is open in another program. Close the file and try again"
Any suggestions? Thank you

Same thing happens to me. I can delete the first one but the second one says
can not delete because it is open on another window and the only window
opened is the one I am trying to fix it with.

Can not believe after 4 days we did not get an answer back. What is up with
this company. Is everyone on vacation?
