It seems too I have to use Uuencode in all my newsgroups or go in and change
it when, if ever, I care to post in a group under BellSouth server.

So, they do not accept posts using the MIME encoding standard? Do they host
international groups? As MIME is *needed* for non-ASCII characters to be
encoded, their server seems to be *seriously* mal-configured!

Apparently one can also use mime if one uses the option to make it quoted printable. I don't know what any of this means.

If you are interested in details, have a look at the great informations
here: <http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/decode.htm>.

Quoted-printable should not be a requirement for a news server, and it is
cumbersome to users of OE/WM/WLMD because those programs can't handle a
reply to a quoted-printable encoded message correctly (quote characters are
not applied). The recommended setting nowadays is definitely the default
setting of WLMD which is MIME/Encoding: None. Bellsouth is some days behind
with their news server, obviously.

I can verify this. From OE (probably Vista also), one has to select
UUENCODE format under Tools | Options | Send | News | Plain text format.
Otherwise the post gets rejected.

They didn't use to do this, but I guess that's new.
