The Anti Virus in Zone Alarm, like Symantec Live Update, is updated
regularly if your subscription has not expired.

My only complain about the Zone Alarm Version 6 is the Smart Defense
Advisory Alert. You must know how to operate your computer very well to be
able to answer these two questions correctly: "Deny" or "Allow."

If you didn't get the correct answer, then, keep your cool . . . because it
is highly probable that you must do a clean install to reset all your
firewall.

are you saying that the Smart Defense Advisory Alert is very limited and not
useful for most of the time. i think your talking about the free version of
zonealarm which don't have the smart defense advisory or very limited.

HI,

useful for most of the time. i think your talking about the free version of
zonealarm which don't have the smart defense advisory or very limited.

I don't think that was what he was implying.

He was saying that if you answer WRONG in the Smart Defence Advisory
Alert, and you don't know how to operate it, you can get into trouble

If your antivirus software wants to update its definitions, and you
answer DENY and set 'Remember this setting', then later you don't
understand why your virus definitions are not updated ... ZoneAlarm
just refuses and doesn't tell any more. And if you didn't really
realize what you had answered, then it can be hard to find out, why
the virus definitions are not updated and how to correct it.

At least that is what I thought he was saying ... in any case it's
facts :)

Regards Leif.

Then you go to Program control menu and see list of all software that
requested internet/intranet access.
This option will easily let you change access settings.

And you don't have to do clean install. LOL!!!

Don't make up stuff if you don't know it.

Very clever answer.

I did what you said many times. And it corrupted my Zone Alarm. So, why
not just follow the easy path, clear the damn stupid mistake of mine and
restart from scratch.

You sounded like a real expert on firewall but it is none of your beeswax if
there are people in this world who learn from their mistakes rather than
learning from insulting others.

Besides, it is not difficult to do a clean install of Zone Alarm. If you
have a licensed copy, that is you paid for your software, it will not take
more two minutes for a 2 gig mhz computer like mine to reinstall it.

Now, do you know the answer for this one?

Dangerous Behavior!

"Outlook Express is monitoring the movement of your mouse and keyboard . .
.."

Allow? or Deny"

I would "Deny", then update virus scanner (if necessary)
run scanner, and test Outlook if its working correctly.
If it does, then leave ZA settings, if it doesn't then change ZA settings.

BTW, I'm not the expert (didn't design ZA, LOL!!!) but everyday user. ( and
have paid license)
No reason to snap at me.
What I'm trying to tell you that you don't have to reinstall ZA to clear
your mistake,
but I also wonder how did you corrupt ZA by changing settings.
Also visit http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs
You my learn something.

That is the stupid "OS firewall" part of the new ZA. That thing is
such a pain in the butt.

It gave me the same thing for a game I installed recently...Well
DUh....Of course the game is going to monitor my mouse movements you
stupid firewall.

While I realize the reasons for this new "OS Firewall" part of ZA, it
gets in the way more often than it does anything useful on my system.

Without ZA you could have key logger or Trojan horse installed and didn't
know about it.
I'd ratter have ZA ask me about it, than let some software have access.

I suppose that your answer to that question is "Allow."

The reason I used that Smart Defense Advisory Alert is because I am not
really sure of the answer.

On my ISP e-mails, my answer is "Allow."

On my Outlook Express, my answer is "Deny."

On IE6, my answer is "Allow" but not permanent.

I have no problems with these settings. But I am still trying to find out
the best answer.

You made a big point there.

That ZA SDAA could be a warning of a possible Trojan Horse.

Do you know who is my main suspect of this situation?

It is none other than <TADA>

Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage software.

But of course, you would say that: Why the hell Baby Bill will do this kind
of things to his loyal customers?

I went to the microsoft.public.windowsupdate and found out that some posters
have problem with KB896688.

I downloaded 9 security updates yesterday and finally I have this update
they were talking about. I have no problems installing the latest updates
and my computer booted with no problem this morning. Going online, I
noticed, however, a slight slowing down of the opening of pages.

One big concern about that post about KB896688 is that some posters cannot
access Windows Update anymore. So, I went there, and Microsoft gave me :
Error Number 0x80244023.

Do you think that this thread has something to do with it?

(But . . . I did not answer any new ZA SDAA.)

Do you think, Microsoft is just giving us placebos?

I wrote before that I was getting CPU usage at 100% that gave many errors
and very slow shutdown on my computer. These problem were solved partly by
the aggressive action of my Anti-Virus maker and, of course, by giving the
correct responses to ZA SDAA.

The bulk of my problem was on the video card that was damaged by the Zotob
worm. I learned how to deal with it.

Wish me "Good Luck!" on WGA.
