I find that I have to disable Zonealarm when using Windows Messenger. Does this mean that
I am then at risk from outside sources and if so what is the answer?

Assuming you mean Medium on Internet Zone of the Main tab of Firewall (there
are a dozen sliders and radio buttons labeled Medium), then his PC would no
longer be running in Stealth mode, right ? His PC would then be visible to
the hackers and bots of the world, right ?

Not being sarcastic, did you get Windows Messenger to work with Zone Alarm,
simply by changing High to Medium on the Internet Zone on the Firewall Main
tab ? Do you run Windows Messenger logged in as Administrator or Limited
User ? Do you specifically open up a particular port for Windows Messenger,
using the Internet Zone on the Firewall Main tab ?

Reason I'm asking is because I do not surf the wild, wild web logged in as
Administrator. I surf the web logged in as Limited User. I stopped using
ICF, because Limited Users do not have rights to open ports when using
Windows Messenger, but after trying numerous combinations, I've still never
gotten Windows Messenger to work with Zone Alarm, while logged in as a
Limited User.

Any experience/expertise you have would be greatly appreciated.

Set it to Medium and it will work.

Answer to first question is YES. Answer to second question is YES. I am a
single user of this computer and my wife also has a computer and it also
works the same. We use cable with a HUB and the two computers act as stand
alone, each has its own unique IP address. BTW, we had problems with the
upgrade to 5.0 and went back. There are some problems with the latest
version of Zone Alarm.

there were 5 questions in the original posting,
so I'm really not sure which 2 you answered.

thanks again.

I don't show the history of 3,4&5, so you will have to repost.
