ZoneAlarm and Remote Desktop

I am using XP-Pro-SP2 and ZoneAlarm Pro 6.0. When any program tries to
communicate with the outside ZoneAlarm asks for my authorization except for
the XP Pro Remote Desktop. I get no warning and no request to authorise. Why
is this? is ZA not aware of what's going on?

When I set up the NM Remote Desktop ZoneAlarm does request authorization and
opens the necessary ports.

But when I do the same with the XP Pro RD I get no request to allow RD to
act as a server and the corresponding port 1723 is not opened so I need to
open it manually in ZA.

I started out not confused by your question and ended up confused.

Are you ON this computer attempting to use the remote desktop client to
connect to another computer or are you on a different computer attempting to
utilize Remote Desktop to connect to the computer described above?

Did you configure Zone Alarm to allow Remote Desktop? (Port 3389 by
default.)

Are you asking why a third party product did not automatically ask you to
open Port 3389 when you make a request from the outside world to that
machine? Actually - is your question about Zone Alarm altogether?

Yes, the question is very precisely about Zonealarm. Sorry if it was not
clear. Let me rephrase it.

When I set up the Netmeeting Remote Desktop Host ZA immediately asks if I
allow that program to be granted server rights. The question is asked when I
enable it with no need for an actual incoming connection.

When I enable the XP Pro RDC ZA asks nothing at that time and it asks
nothing later when the RDC receives an incoming connection and acts as a
server.

My question is why does ZA not act the same way with both? Why is the
XP-Pro-RDC server allowed to communicate out without my authorization?

I hope this is clearer.

It is - but it does not seem to be a question for these newsgroups.
You would have better luck asking about the product at the product's support
site...

Perhaps in their forum...

I'll try that but I guess my line of thinking is that there may be something
fundamentally different in the way the XP-Pro-RDC and the NM-RD work and it
would be interesting to know this. I am thinking that to start the NM RD you
already have to be logged in as a user whereas the XP Pro RD can be selected
but no user logged in and you can still connect remotely and log in as a
user. For ZoneAlarm to load you have to log in so it seems the XP-Pro-RD is
there previous and outside of ZoneAlarm and the particular user logged in at
any one moment. So I am thinking that this behavior may be due to how the
XP-Pro-RD works and not due to ZA. I hope I am not confusing things.
