Remote Desktop Help

Eric

Heres the deal. I have read all of the info from other
people on how to fix/work Remote Desktop but nothing
works. I have Windows XP Pro on my desktop and laptop
with all updates installed. I'm trying to set my desktop
up so that I can connect from my laptop at school. I
have read everything from configuring the listening port
for 3389, to configuring my Microsoft DSL router to
accept RDP connections. Nothing seems to want to work.
I am also running ZoneAlarm Pro. Please don't tell me to
refer to my manual for ZA. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks

Eric

From another posting (I can't vouch for it as I won't let ZoneAlarm
anywhere near my computer):

I don't have the free version, and I overheard someone say the free
version of ZA can't do this, but try it anyway:

Enter the Firewall section - Main tab. In the Internet Zone Security
area, there might be a button labeled "Custom". If there isn't, then
you can stop right now. Consider getting a different firewall product.

Click the Custom button, then scroll to "Allow incoming TCP ports".
Check the box and enter the port(s) of the viewer (guest, remote
helper, whatever you want to call it) in the field provided. Click OK.

However, if you start the MS Remote Desktop Server (in WinXP-Pro,
right?), it should already have informed ZA to open port 3389 for this
application. In the Program Control section, find and select Remote
Desktop Connection, the click the Options button (if it's there). On
the Ports tab, make sure everything looks right.

ZA should have thrown up a warning dialog stating that "Remote Desktop
Server wants to act as a server. Will you allow it?" Do you get this
warning from ZA when you start RDS? If not, then either you have told
ZA to always remember this application's permission as 'granted,' or
RDS isn't starting properly.

(This is a case for referring to documentation made available by
ZoneAlarm since it is blocking your connection).
