ZoneAlarm - need help with proxy server settings

I recently updated the Free ZoneAlarm, and I had trouble right from the start
getting this message:

"The connection was refused when attempting to contact the proxy server you
have configured. Please check the proxy settings and try again."

The only way I could surf on the internet was to do a System Restore, and
then I could surf again. The problem is that I had other issues with ZA (it
appeared to have a corrupted installation because I got messages such as
"Help Not Available" whenever I clicked the "Help(?)", plus the option to do
updates is grayed out. Because of this, I was advised to do a clean
install. However, since I had the proxy server issue and had to do the
System Restore, I am reluctant to mess with this thing too much.

Can someone advise me with this? The ZA forums were not of much help to me.

What version of ZA? The upgrades to version 5.xx.xx.xx. have had signigicant
problem and the ZA forums are full of complaints. If you can get a copy of
ZA version 4.5.594.000, the last stable, error free version.

I am using version 5.1.033.000. I will try your suggestion.
