Proxy server login popup

I've got two users in my organization with the same problem. Windows XP SP2
boxes running behind a proxy server. For hour-long periods during the
workday, the pop-up window to login to the proxy server begins showing up
every ten seconds or so, needless to say its VERY annoying. Doesn't seem to
matter if they put in their user name and password or just click cancel, the
message continues to pop-up. We fixed it temporarily by resetting their
password on the domain controller, but it soon starts happening again. Do I
need to rebuild their profiles?

Got lucky in that one of my users had an error that mentioned backweb.
Apparently, the Logitech mouse software was attempting to find updates and
was running into the proxy server. Used MSconfig to stop backweb and the
problem vanished.
