I will most likley leave the default sound, just as I have with XP,
but other people love putting their own sound there...

and first of all why did they change this? Its crazy.. like most things in
vista..

"hey lets change this feature just for the heck of it... he he h eh he hehe"

Idiots!

they hired a famous guitar musician to make this sound.. he worked like 18
months on it..
lol.. and I can imagine it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars..

for a friken 4 second stupid sound you cant change!

Vista = the view of an idiot
Now also the sound of an idiot you cannot change.

No - you just turn it off - see my other post.

Why not just turn it off and put "your own sound" on the login sound.

Remember this is not a change - Windows XP does not have a "start up"
sound - just on the logon etc so this is a new feature that you CAN
turn off.

So who exactly is the "idiot" here?

Of course you can change the sound.
Just find a .wav you like and drop it in the folder and select it as the
sound.

M

MicroFox

ok explain why they added this "feature" then?

I can think of several reasons NOT to add it....

I neither know nor care - if you don't like it just turn it off. Then
have your own logon sound if you feel a burning desire to hear little
noises when you logon.

The startup sound is IIRC, embedded in a dll.
Very likely a hack will be out before too long to overcome this very very
very minor annoyance (to some people).

I estimate that the start up sound, involving the composer, testers,
listeners, etc cost ca. a million dollars to create.

It is hardly worth it, IMO.

The ability to turn it off is not useful. I want a start up sound to assure
that my audio setup is active.

I do NOT want this sound!

Micro, I think you'll need to apologise for "idiots!" first. If you don't
understand something that doesn't make everybody around you idiots, just
FY... (err, this thing IS contagious!)

Then maybe somebody will explain you the idea of brandig including visual
and sound ones. Ever heard an Eartlink ad? Remember that sound? Sure you do.
Now every time you hear that sound alone, you'll immediately recall one
word... Earthlink! That's a sound branding.

Another example can be ICQ "new message" sound. Yet another is XBOX startup
sound (non-customizable too by the way)
