Yes, Firefox is excellent but the engine needs works. My web-site looks
different (html only) in Firfox than in IE.

The chances are that Firefox is doing it right. It is the IE engine
that needs a lot of work.

It may get tabs, but it still won't be as fast as Firefox's rendering
engine. Also, extensions is something MS won't dare to implement, so FF
will still have its plus points. Throwing in tabs simply means saving the
trouble of loading Crazy Browser, MyIE, Avant, Maxthon etc. It's the engine
needs the upgrade! But that'll take time, and cost $$$$$.

Will this functionality come in When third-parties write plugins? Or one has
to purchase a shareware program to get more functionality? Or when some
spyware infected add-on to IE is provided on some website somewhere?

It's been around for some time already. Take a look at the free
browser called SlimBrowser from www.flashpeak.com. It uses the IE
engine has the option to use tabs, or not; and puts many of the IE
options in the pull down menus. It also has a Search toolbar that you
can select just about any search engine you want; I use Google. I've
been using it for a couple of years and only use IE for the update
page, although SlimBrowser will access it from a pull down menu, too.
Did I mention... it's free?

Will there be an option to have no tabs if preferred? Personally I see no
benefit to having tabs. Or will MS do this with Explorer too? Perhaps that
will be in Service Pack 14 with WMP24 available as a 5Gig download. ;-p

You appear to be a complete IE advocate who's never seen or used one of the
browsers which has used tabbed browsing for ages. Try it first and I
guarantee you'll see the benefits then.

Obviously they aren't for everyone but how long did you try them for? I
know when I first heard of them I thought it was a silly/useless idea and I
was very hesitant to even try them. But I find now that I use them in
Firefox on a regular basis I find it a royal pain to use Internet Explorer.

Is that similar to "open separate browser window" ?
(Personally I don't see the reason to have a dozen web pages open though)

It wouldn't have been much of an example with just one window open,
would it? :)

Thanks for your explanations, however, I still don't get "tabs".
I will stick to "favourites" and my A to Z lists of sites.
Just write me off as thick :)

Thiok? Not at all. It's all about what a person gets used to. I like
tabs and SlimBrowser. I looked at FireFox... for 10 minutes, then
deleted it. I'm used to SlimBrowser and it works for me. Some people
even get used to working on ::gulp:: Macintosh puters! :)

By the way, I still have my favorites... I just open them in a tab in
one window instead of having multiple browsers running or a cascading
pyramid of windows in one browser.

Now, if you wanna talk about thick... I'll show you my picture! I'm
not saying I'm overweight... just 3 feet too short for my weight. :(

I Think Tabs Is A Great Idea,I've Tried Tabs Using Other Browser But Removed
The Browser As I Prefer Microsoft Internet Explorer Over Other Browser So I
Guess I'll Just Wait, I THink It Would Be Great If Microsoft Would Upgrade
The Internet Explorer Download Manager So It Can Pause/Resume Like The 3Rd
Party Download Managers Can ... A Must For Internet Explorer 7

Thanks Microsoft And Keep Up The Great Work

The tabbed browsing experience in the upcoming IE7 beta is pretty basic.
Expect additional end-user functionality to come in after the beta....

Some people have asked why we didn't put tabs in IE sooner. Initially, we
had some concerns around complexity and consistency. will it confuse users
more than it benefits them? Is it confusing if IE has tabs, but other core
parts of the Windows experience, like Windows Media Player or the shell, don't
have tabs? I think we made the wrong decision here initially, and we're
making the right one now. I'd like to ask you to post a comment with your
favorite or most critical IE add-ins. we want to make sure IE7 works great
with them.

That is very good news. I have one extra request. It's important. Please support "application/xhtml+xml" mime type in IE7 a few sites have been pointing out potential problems

Thank you -and sorry if this post is in the wrong place

What I Like about tabs is the challenge of moving them and resizing them
adding and removing text. Also toolbars are good to have on every side of
yopur desktop bars for anything, with tabs in them. I pull my taskbar up a
few knotches and cram everything into the browser. Am I crazy?
