Anybody know the expected release date of IE7?

I remember reading somewhere, I believe several months ago, that IE7 was
going to be released during the first half of 2006. I will admit that 2006
isn't technically half over yet, but does anybody know the planned release
date of IE7? I also know that IE7 Beta2 is available, but even though I am a
developer, I would prefer to continue using IE6 until IE7 is no longer in
Beta. When they said IE7 would be available in the first half of 2006 I
thought they meant the non-Beta version. Did I misinterpret that and they
actually meant the Beta version? Are they just waiting until the end of
June? Or did these plans get changed and they are not going to release the
standalone XP version until they release Windows Vista (since the original
plan was to make IE7 only available with Windows Vista, but they changed
that plan to make a standalone that could be used with XP)? I have been
following the IE blog at:

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/default.aspx

but have not noticed any mention of a change in expected release date. I am
looking forward to IE7 not only for certain features (my favorite is the
printing, I am sick of having half the page chopped off when I print), but I
am also a web developer, so I want to become familiar with it ASAP, but
because I am also a student and my job is work at home, I don't want to take
the risk of Beta causing any big problems right now. (NOTE: I am a Windows
XP Professional user, so when I say IE7, I am referring to the standalone
version that is compatible with XP) Thank you to anyone that can give me any
information currently available.

I read the final version will be available when it will be ready.

Well it is already released.
Looks good but is almost the same has firefox, wich means that
microsoft is finally catching up with the new technology.

So far looks good..

No, it has not been released. The beta has.
The release is expected to come in conjunction with the retail public
release of Vista, perhaps in January?

The latest Beta has been released to the community, not the developers.
This means it is probably the final version.

So this is the 2nd final version, given that we've had two betas
released to public so far (that I've been counting). Glasses raised to
more final versions to come!

Hi Tom;
The last I heard was 6 to 8 weeks before the Vista release which (by todays
schedule) make it around early November. Of course that's is assuming that
Vista is released on schedule (cough). If Vista had been released when it was
first supposed to be it would be halfway through the original lifecycle by now
and we would be waiting patiently for the next (better?) version of Windows
instead of jokingly waiting for Vista.

Hi, George: Thanks for the info. Originally, I believed that they had it
timed to release with Vista, so we'll see. In any event, it's still a beta
with lots of bugs, so it is not the final release ;-)

It's just like everything else by MS. Do we ever see a *Final* release?
Although, on further consideration, we have probably (don't bet on it just yet)
seen the final releases of Win9x.<g> I suspect that we may see more beta and
pre-beta releases of IE7 yet. As for bugs, it will probably still have a couple
after beta but these things take time to iron out. In the long run it may have
been a mistake to write a Vista component (IE7) and release it for use on
earlier versions but only time will tell us that for sure. That's one of the
problems that causes us to see so many requests for added features. They may
(or may not) be desirable under XP but many will be redundant under Vista so now
the question arises "should they be included at all?". I'm not sure that
Microsoft wants to (or even should) support different versions of IE7 for
different OS's. Once that line of thought is taken out of the purely selfish
"they should because *I* want it" and look at it as a simple business decision
it will give people a different line of thinking to go follow. Anyway enough of
this conversation because only time will tell us when the release date will be
and what the final version will look like.
Take care
