I updated my Toshiba Satellite 2405-S201 and now my audio
device doesn't work. I went to Toshiba support and
attempted to download an audio device driver but it said
it was incompatible with my operating system. I don't get
it, everything worked fine up until this upate.

You have to have audio drivers specifically for XP. If your Toshiba is
too old and there are no XP drivers available, see if there are any
written for Windows 2000 - they may work. If not, then you are sol as
far as sound goes. Windows XP is not an update to a previous operating
system the way you are thinking of it - it is a *different* operating
system from Win9x and ME. Things that worked under Win9x and ME will
not necessarily work under XP.

Go to the Windows Update site and download and install ALL updates including
drivers.
Your sound will work after that.

I have the same Toshiba.
