Yahoo Messenger pop ups

Daniel

I don't know if this the proper place to post my question... BUT.... I 'm
being
bugged by the Yahoo Messenger pop ups for me to upgrade to their new version
7.5, or the Beta version 8. I'm running version 6 right now, and I'm pretty
happy with it. The last time this happened, you could not turn off the pop
ups and clicking on the "no thanks" button only works till the next time you
sign on. Why can't you just use a simple version of their Messenger, and
not "HAVE TO" upgrade all the time, with no choice on the matter. I really
have no use for all the "bells and whistles" that Yahoo pushes.

What are my choices? - Trillian

Thanks,
Dan

Dan, if you opt for the update you MUST be very careful when it is
installing because they have hidden the checkboxes that stop installation of
crap behind the "Custom Install" option, if you go with the default
"Typical" install you will get the silly toolbar and be stuck with it unless
you uninstall and start over. There was a security update a while ago (So
they claimed) and so updating is not all bad, and I think their voice over
IP has improved a bit but unless your older version has a setting to
"Automatically check for updates" that you can turn off I don;t know of a
way to stop the pop-up.

Also look for GAIM and maybe Miranda
