Problem with java?

Hope someone can help.I have a big problem in a limited account on my
computer.I cannot sign in to Live Messenger, BT Yahoo browser gives a script
error box which refuses to go away till closed by task manager, and google
images search returns only page numbers, no images. AOK till 2 or 3 days ago.
Then we installed MP11 and rolled back to MP10, updated java as a Hotspot
Virtual Machine message came up and I was prompted to update, and run a
Registry Mechanic clean-up. Something went wrong obviously, so I restored the
Registry clean-up - no joy.Rolled back to the earlier java version, but still
no joy.Have re-installed Live Messenger (which indicated that it was a java
problem), IE7 and Yahoo Toolbar.Tried java again (have checked that my
internet setting re. scripting, etc as are they should be), installing it
both from my hard disk and from the web ( message re. proxy settings popped
up).Have verified installation on java.com on both my own and the limited
account and, frankly, I am at pulling hair out stage. All apps work ok on my
admin. account. Incidentally, when typing address into Messenger, it takes
about 5 seconds to show up on limited account. Messenger error = 800401f3.
Please, can you help.

You did way too many things all at once without testing after each
change. Make a new limited user account and see if the same problems
occur. If they don't, copy the old user account data and settings to
the new one. If you still have the problems in the new user account,
start by uninstalling everything new and taking the box back to when it
worked. Make only one change at a time and test after each change.
Start by uninstalling the Yahoo Toolbar since it is known to cause
issues.

Hi, Malke, thanks for your reply. I am sure you're right - I did too much all
at once. I will go and try your suggestion and will let you know how I get
on. --
Mags thanks you

ok, new account had same problems.Removed all new software from last few days
- improved things a fair bit.In IE6, I could access BT Yahoo! browser and
mail - searched to see if any help there - turns out they have been having
issues with their browser and webmail in last few days. Sure enough my
connection was down for best part of a day just 3 days ago.Gather this may be
part of my problem, but this wouldn't affect Messenger would it? Still unable
to access this on limited account - says 'temporarily busy', but help still
suggests java problem. Is it possible that BT Yahoo! browser could cause
conflict? It does not seem to be set up properly for IE7 yet - its sidebar
does not work with it ,nor does the mail beta.Or have I done enough changes
in the meantime?Any advice welcome.

I can't help you with your ISP problems. Naturally if you can't get to
the Internet you won't be able to connect with an instant messenger
program!

If you are using IE7, you should post your question in the IE7 newsgroup
*after* you spend some time reading through the posts there. The IE7
newsgroup is:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

There are a huge number of posts so it would be smart to start by going
to Google Groups Advanced Search. Use a search term that describes your
problem, constrain the search to the IE7 newsgroup and the date to very
recently.

Malke, thanks for your help and time. I could still access the internet ok in
IE7, but not through BT Yahoo!'s own browser and could not access Yahoo! mail
even through IE, so IE7 itself seems to be functioning OK, except for a lack
of images on google image search! Strangely Yahoo! image search has no
problems.I'm off now to follow your suggestions. The problem may not be fixed
yet, but at least I've learned that it is best to try only one new thing at a
time!Thanks again
