Kelly - Don't use it? As in don't use Yahoo Messenger? Where is that
coming from?... Yahoo Messenger is a very popular IM program. I use
it. All of my friends use it. & in favor of MSN/Windows Messenger.
With MSN Messenger, 80% of the time I've had it (going on a year now),
I've had voice problems. Never webcam problems, or typing at each
other problems, or file transfer problems... But voice channel/server
problems, or direct voice problems, as I am not sure how MSN works.
Spywoods, go ahead and use Yahoo Messenger. I've never had much
problem with it. (I have a couple of suggestions for you to get it
running a couple of paragraphs down).
As far as using Outlook Express, you need to use it with an email
server that will work with it. If you happen to have a free Yahoo
email address, you can't use it with that. But with most ISPs it will
work. I have Comcast cable. To get it to work, I had to enter in my
ID I use on Comcast, which is in my case my full email address, then I
had to tell O.E. what name (address) the incoming email server at
Comcast is, then also the name of the outgoing email server.
Now back to Yahoo Messenger. Yahoo has all kinds of chatrooms just
like MS. There are many people that use Yahoo Messenger instead of,
or in favor of, MSN Messenger. Your friends are probably using it, so
you'll be able to IM them. Voice & video too if you want.
But you can even use both Yahoo Messenger & MSN/Windows Messenger at
the same time. You can even use AOL's IM & another call ICQ. You
could use them all at the same time. In fact you have Windows
Messenger loaded & automatically running in Windows XP.. It is on the
same network as MSN Messenger.
I am a member of a Yahoo chatroom group. Not many of us use MSN
regularly. What we do - the MSN Messenger file transfer works very
good. & Yahoo Messenger's file transfer is lacking. So if we want to
transfer files we fire up MSN Messenger & transfer files. Otherwise
we run Yahoo all of the time.
So - first, I don't know if it is necessary, but I think it is - have
you gotten a Yahoo ID/email address? It is free just like MS.
Everyone I know uses a Yahoo ID with Yahoo Messenger. Now, with your
Yahoo ID/email address, when you enter in your ID in the sign-in
window, only enter in the part of your Yahoo email address before the
@ thingy. That is your Yahoo ID. And use the password you used when
you signed up with Yahoo for your email address.
Secondly, it doesn't happen often, in fact I can't remember when it
happened before, but Yahoo has been down & up for the past several
days. An interent attack by someone/thing. You might have tried when
it was down.
Thirdly - I recommend using an older version of Yahoo Messenger vs the
new one. The new one is version 6.0 or 6.something. Do a search on
the Internet & type in Yahoo 5.6. Now go to control panel\add-remove
& remove Yahoo version 6 before you install version 5.6.
Ok. Whether you use version 6 or version 5.6, & you still have
problems, double click on the following to send Yahoo your feedback
explaining your Messenger problem:

Here is one in case you people overseas:

Hope that helps. I am no expert.
