I have spent all day yesterday and most of today with a telephone to my ear, trying to recover from what appears to be a dumb mistake I made while uninstalling some programs that I wasn't using anymore. I did this after an install of Windows XP Home Version upgrade from WIN 98. Evidently I managed to hit the wrong button when asked if I wanted to delete shared files. The technician for Windows (well..........the third technician that I spoke with) finally got me up and running, but now I'm unable to change the properties of my desktop. I only get the theme window and not the one with all the tabs. I am able to access that window in safe mode, but not in normal mode. The person I dealt with today is telling me that I need new drivers for my NVIDIA, but I downloaded them from Microsoft this morning and installed them successfully. I also installed a new driver for my IntelliMouse Optical USB and PS/2 compatible. It was working normally yesterday, but now It isn't working correctly either. Even though the mouse lights up, it now shows the window for the IntelliMouse 3.1 that came with the computer. I tried to reinstall the drivers and was told that I needed to remove an older version first, but I am unable to remove that mouse from the control panel Add/Remove programs window. I should say that all this happened after I downloaded and installed a critical update and several other recommended updates as well as the new drivers for the Video Card. I am running a Dell Dimension Pentium III with MMX technology. I have 256 MHz Ram and a 27 Gig hard drive. I know this is so long and complicated, but I would sure like to know if anyone has any ideas that might help me that haven't already been tried........
Thanks so much,
Ginny

I can offer advice on one of your problems - *Never* install video or sound
drivers from Windows Update. In my experience, they cause nothing but
problems.

Download and install the Version: 53.03 Release Date: December 9, 2003 WHQL
Certified drivers directly from nVidia.

Uninstall the drivers you got from Windows Update first if possible.
