MS needs to get something out on this, as it seems to be happening a lot

I am having this same problem it was working fine then i shut it off at night and woke up in the morning and went to login and it said loading but went right back and logged off automatically. I installed no programs.

oh wow i think it is something with lavasoft adaware 6. that is the exact same thing i did !!! it had to reboot to remove files that were in use and after i restarted it and tried to log in it did the flash then back to the login.

Now that you mention that, I'd have to agree. I read through their site and it indicated it was ok with XP. So this is apparently an incorrect claim on their part. However, as with all software, they take no responsiblities for it screwing things up

Everybody running XP, AVOID LAVASOFT Software, we ran it, did as it indicated it needed to do, and we got screwed not sure how to correct it now, got the system new from DELL and they do not ship disks with their PC's...

So much for FREEWARE/SHAREWARE from now on at least for us here...

Although it does seem very likely, it may not be lavasoft that has caused the problem. The last thing I did before my computer died was surf the internet...although I did manage to pick-up some programs along the way without knowing...
Anyway I hope this idea works and no files are lost.

Will I need to re-activate Windows afterwards?

Hi,

Although it does seem very likely, it may not be lavasoft that has caused the problem. The last thing I did before my computer died was surf the internet...although I did manage to pick-up some programs along the way without knowing...

Check this, you wouldn't need to reactivate Windows.

"Blazefind changes the following registry-key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
"Userinit" = "C:\WINNT\system32\userinit.exe,"

in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
"Userinit" = "C:\WINNT\system32\wsaupdater.exe,"

Used Lavasoft Adaware to get rid of the pest ----> removed blazefind
and
with it the wsaupdater.exe

==> next time i tried to logon my computer the system tries to run
wsaupdater.exe which it couldn't find ! FAILED LOGON -> LOGOFF

I first tried to find ways to change the registry from within the
recovery console but i did not succeed (ERD commander will probably
work, but since i wasn't sure that this was the problem i thought it a
little bit too expensive)...
Then i thought of this:
just copy userinit.exe as wsaupdater.exe !! It's as simple as that....

YES!! it works again... and blazefind is gone (it seems.... :-) )"

Using the recovery console employ the command

copy C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe
C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe

(this is one line separated by a space, supposing the partition where
windows is installed is C, and supposing blazefind caused this)

Good luck
