Xp very sluggish booting up

Hi verybody.
New laptop here, hp pavillion 2104 only about 5 weeks old.
Blueyonder netgear wireless router is running
Everything was running perfectly, but only today the bootup procedure is now
starting to take an eternity (about 5 min). Its became very sluggish,
although after this it runs fine.
After the Welcome message, the desktop screen appears, but my programs and
icon's,desktop folders take about 3-4 min to appear.

This was booting up instantly only yesterday

I had tried System restore, but this failed, and i got a message about
*unable to restore* to this time, Dont know why this is.

Run full system virus scan, and all ok Using norton 2006

run adaware

also tried the f8 boot up screen and selected * last known good config,
but this didnt help.

started up in safe mode, but it was still the same , very sluggish same
problem , as in normal mode

I cant think of another thing to try

The only thing i did do was to use a program call cute fp, to ftp some
programs onto my cable box, and i disabled my wireless stuff for about 10
min to do this, then re-enable.
but i cant think this would have causd this. I even deleated the program
just incase.

still able to connect to the internet and stuff

help please

Disable Norton services and see if it boots up more rapidly.

Thanks mate,
I think i may have cured it, but it def had something to do with the
wireless stuff being shut down temporarily. Probably disabled something i
shouldnt have
Managed to use system restore in safe mode, and it worked this time, so i
put it back a couple of days, it it now seems to be ok.

But i take ur point on norton. Sometimes i think this is the program that
takes an eternity to load. I am running the 60 day free trial that came with
the laptop, but dont know if i should buy this after this trial period has
elapsed

cheers

Tom

I don't suggest it. It is bloated and is notorious for systenm slowdowns.
