XP takes time to recognise Lacie drive

I run XP Home SP2 and have a Lacie 250gb drive connected by Firewire. When I
start the system, XP does not recognise the drive. BUT after about 30 minutes
XP 'sees' the drive and it runs fine. I have used this drive for some time
on my old computer (XP) where it worked well, but now...
I have replaced the Firewire card and same result. While it could be that
the drive's faulty, I would appreciate some thoughts and advice on any other
action I can take before I get another (and the same problem crops up!)

If you are using a PCI Firewire card try a different slot. Go to
Lacie's website and under Support look for some info.
Theres a pdf Read Me document for your drive and XP SP2. May have info
there that will help.

Check on your anti virus software.
