hi, i was wondering if any members of this forum have had any problems with windows 98se and firewire devices. my pc does not recognise my lacie firewire writer. i have gone into device manager: viewed devices
by connection. under pci bus i have yellow question mark pci communication device, under this i have pci
ohci compliant ieee 1394 host controller and under this i have again yellow question mark lacie group sa lacie
d2 dvd multi firewire. i have tried disconnecting and reconnecting firewire cables and reinstalling windows 98se firewire updates but lacie drive is still not being recognised. when i go into device manager :view devices by type 1394 host controller properties it states this device is working properly but further down
there is a yellow ? other devices. under this yellow ? lacie group sa lacie d2 dvd multi firewire and under this
a yellow ? pci communication device. any feedback on possible solution or experience of similar problems
would be greatly appreciated.

windows 98se and lacie firewire dvd writer

i have a athlon 600 pc 30gb hard drive [10gb free] 384 mb ram. windows 98se . these specs are more than
minimum required for dvd writer. as for firewire card i assume it is operational as not so long ago i transferred
video footage from my dv camcorder through firewire cable. having said that whenever i have used firewire
cable to transfer video it has never been straightforward.i have often had to reload drivers from my windows 98 cd or from ms website [update for storage devices].

windows 98se + lacie firewire writer

thanks for replying. using sisoftware sandra firewire card is shown as via technologies inc vt6306 via fire ii ieee.

under device manager- view devices by type there are exclamation marks by other devices [yellow ?]
under other devices similar exclamation marks by lacie group sa dvd multi firewire and exclamation marks by
pci communication device

under device manger -view devices by connection- under pci ohci compliant ieee 1394 host controller this
branches off to exclamation mark lacie group sa dvd multi firewire

i have gone into properties for pci hhci compliant 1394 host controller. this states the device is working
correctly. what i have found confusing is that when firewire writer was connected i thought it should appear under device manager [view devices by type option] as a branch off 1394 bus controller. instead it
is coming up as a branch off OTHER DEVICES . i have gone into properties for lacie group sa dvd multi firewire. this is coming up code 28 [ drivers for this device are not installed] .
