Hi there,

I have a system I am working on and the system restore is shut off and will
not re-enable. We I click the checkmark to enable the system restore it
gives me this message: "System restore encountered an error trying to
enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine and try
again." No matter if I restart nothing helps. I have gone into the
services.msc set the system restore to both Manual and Automatic and then
clicked on 'Start' to start the service as it is currently stopped. This
does nothing to help though as when I press start it immediately starts and
then stops again and windows says some process will stop automatically when
no more work is there to do. Anyway, I am wondering if there is a registry
key that I can change or if anyone has seen this before. I Should say that
the Automatic Updates was also being tricky but I did manage to get that
going. It was greyed out and I got to its registry key and set it to 0
instead of 1. Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Set System Restore to only monitor the C:\ drive, and made sure there
is sufficient free disk space on the drive. See if this setting
sticks.
No matter if I restart nothing
helps. I have gone into the services.msc set the system
restore to both Manual and Automatic and then clicked on
'Start' to start the service as it is currently stopped.

The System Restore service should be set to automatic and started.
Take a look at the link below for more troubleshooting tips.
