XP stops responding

I have WIn XP with SP2. The pc randomly stops responding
to most things such as clicking most icons. However the
my computer icon and the start button continue to work no
problem. This happens for about two minutes and then all
of the applications I tried to access all open at once.
Does anyone know whats going on

Hi

Are there any error messages when the PC stops? Have a look in the Event
Viewer to see if there is an entry that may point to the problem.
