XP startup problems

I can not start up my laptop in standard mode, just in safe mode. I have
restored previous checkpoints but it did not work either.
How can I check what is worng with my laptop?

It would be nice to know what message you receive when you try in normal
startup.
While your at it check out the "recovery" options in the manual that came
with the laptop...not all come with an OEM version of XP but rather a
"recovery" CD that when used restores the laptop to "when 1st Purchased"
condition.

Thanks Peter,
It does not show any message. It just hangs after lighting the caps locks
and num locks lights. I have to force the shut down by pressing the on botton.
