XP start up problem

Hi,

two days ago I used my Pc as normal. Using Norton4 Virus
including firewall I always felt save to be on the net.
When I shut down the Pc as normal no problems where
noticed. When I started it up again an hour later, it
starts as normal up to the point where the screen turns
black after showing the XP home edition logo with the
moving bar underneath. The mouse courser comes up (its
usable with the mouse). The screen then usually turns blue
and starts to load my programs.
Instead of that it shows an error message (something with
a password he is trying to updated but invalid data ...
bla bla ) and then reboots automaticaly again and again
and again. When stopping it in Bios he gives me several
options but what ever I choose he comes up with something
like whistler personal settings.
Please can anyone help.
I need that PC for work .....
