XP not loading up

Hi,
My friend is having an issue with his pc not loading up Windows XP.
When he starts his PC he gets to a page that gives him options to load
windows xp normally, safe mode etc, he selects to load xp normally but
nothing happens, sometimes he even gets a BIOS screen appearing.

He also tells me that on a couple of occassions a screen has come up saying
something about not loading a raid correctly?

I am very sorry for the vague details but this is all he could tell me, hes
not too technical. Any help/advice on this issue would help greatly.

Thank you.

Tell you friend to take his computer to a local, reputable, and independent
(not BigBoxStore USA or Geek Squad) shop.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. Does this sound like ahardware or software
issue to you?

If its software i may be able to fix it with the right advice, this is just
something ive not heard of before.

Thanks again.

Nowhere near enough info to even venture a guess. If your friend said that
his car wouldn't start and every now and then the Check Engine light comes
on, would you be able to tell him how to fix it or fix it yourself?

Oddly enough I have seen this sort of problem all too often with computer
that come into my shop. The problems may be one or more of the following:

1 - File system is corrupt.

Solution: Boot from a Bart PE or other CD that will allow you to run chkdsk
/f and/or fix the partition.

2 - BIOS setting changed.

Solution: You have a SATA drive and your BIOS was changed from the correct
setting that allowed your computer to boot from the SATA drive. Most likely
the SATA drive operating type setting was RAID.

3 - Your HD has failed.

Solution: Obvious... Replace HD.

Hopefully some of this may help.
