XP SP2

I have tried on several occasions to upgrade my XP Home PC to SP2.

Every time after i install SP2 my computer fails to start up. it says a
recent hardware change..... I always have to restore the PC back to SP1. Is
there a problem with SP2 installing on PCs with AMD athlon processors. If
there is my processor is AMD Athlon 64 3200+

Does anyone know when or if Windows will release something called XP SP2a?

No.. there will not be 2a..

There may be a Service Pack 3, but if there is one it will be sometime
in 2007 I suspect.
