XP SP2 --> XP SP1

Hello.

I have a test network on which we are running a legacy Windows database
program (Touchstone). There is an issue between Touchstone and Windows XP
Pro SP2 that makes the database program hang and crash. It is a know issue
that Microsoft has decided not to resolve.

Touchstone will run on Windows XP SP1 without problems, but of course
Microsoft no longer supports SP1. In any case, I have a Dell Dimension 9200
that has XP SP2 installed. When I try to boot up from a Windows XP Pro SP1
CD, the PC gives the BSOD with the following error, that is really not
covered within the Microsoft online KB:

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF749D0BF, 0xF78E9208, 0xF78E8F08)
pci.sys - Address F749D0BF base at F7496000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

The PC has plenty of HDD space and was just received from Dell within the
last 60 days, so the BIOS is up-to-date.

Thanks you in advance for any help that you can provide!

You may be out of luck. Although - to me - it sounds like you just need the
correct controller card driver integrated into your Windows XP installation
CD and/or use the F6 installation method.

Windows 2000?

(Which is basically Windows XP minus the spoiler, blue valvecap LEDs and
dangling football-boots. )

I finally figured out what you meant by F6 and tried that, however, that
ended in a BSOD with the same error code.
