XP SP2 - trying to update java VM

My client is running XP SP2 on a stand alone PC with currently Sun's jvm
v1.4.2_03 running.

A couple of months ago the VM was updated to 1.4.2_04 and things were running
nicely.

Now, post installing XP SP2, I cannot install the update being offered at
java.sun.com to 1.4.2_05 at all.

If you download it through IE you get a "no certificate" warning (despite the
fact that the download does have a cert....which is odd. However if you then
download it manually and try and install it the Windows Installer comes up with
the following message:-

"The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists
and you can access it, or contact the application vendor and verify that this is
a valid Windows Installer package".

Is anyone else getting this message??? I can see nothing in the client's Event
Logs and I presume that the problem lies with Sun and not SP2....but before
going down that route I would welcome any views.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks PA but I am not sure if that is the issue....I have DEP turned on for
essential windows stuff only...but then again it might be that java vm comes
into that category!

Will take a look and see if I can spot the issue...trouble is the event logs are
completely clear!
