XP-SP2 Internet Explorer failure on PDF files

After I installed the SP2 update, Adobe Reader 7.0.5 fails to load and
display "PDF" files from MS-Internet Explorer.... Clicking on the PDF link
brings the dialog box:

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." .... When the dialog box closes, I lose the IE
window ....

- I have been through all the bulletin boards at Microsoft & Adobe. I have
deleted & reinstalled AR 7.0.5, and have enabled all active X controls, and
disabled my popup blocker, all to no avail....
Could "eTrust PestPatrol", or other spam/virus blockers be causing the
problem... or is XP-SP2 incompatible with AR 7.0.5 ?

I have XP Home SP 2. No problems with Reader 7.0.5 here.

Since SP 2 is by now more than a year old, it would be kind of senseless for Adobe to release software that was incompatible with SP 2.

Thanks for the reply M and D -

I was able to resolve my problem with Reader 7.0.5 by deselecting "Display
PDF in browser", "Allow fast web view", and "Allow speculative downloading in
the background" in the Adobe Reader via the Edit/Preferences/Internet menu
path...

This probably eliminated the flurry of handshaking and processing necessary
for a browser window display. I am unable to track down the bug preventing
browser PDF operation.
