XP SP2 installation using GPO fails with MSIInstaller error 11722

We deploy Sp2 to our XP clients using GPO.

On few clients we have the following problem: at startup of the client the
installation of SP2 starts but stops after a few moments.
In the event viewer there is logged an error:
Event ID 11722, MSIInstaller, error:
"Product: Windows XP SP2 (1031) -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this
Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish
as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action
AdminRunSetupMin, location: <path to file location>, command: /q /z /msi"

We controlled RPC service on this clients: it ist running.

Hints or advise to solve this are welcome.

In meantime we solved the problems by analyzing the svcpack.log under
%systemroot%:
In several cases the systems had a modified boot.ini and were booting by
default in modified bootscreens. Selecting the default XP bootscreen when
starting up SP2 installs successfull without any problems.

In other cases we saw problems with actual installed applications, (g.e.
'daemon-tools') on the affected clients. After uninstalling this applications
the SP2 was sucessfully installed during next start up.

Hope this helps others with same problems.

I'm also having this problem. Looking at the other posts, I've checked to see
if they match my system and symptoms. They are similar, but not exact.
NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled.
Error message follows:
Product: Windows XP Service Pack 2 (1033) -- Error 1722. There is a problem
with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did
not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
Action AdminRunSetupMin, location:
\\<domain-dfs-root>\SDP\XPSP2\i386\update\Update.exe, command: /q /z /msi
We've had similar problems with SP3 and 4 for Win2000 when deploying via GP.
I keep getting the feeling this shouldn't be rocket science. Any help would
be appreciated.
