SP2 GPO Installation Problem

D

Dan

It seems like I always have trouble with GPO software
installation. I can never get them to work on first try.
AppLocale seemed to be the spaces in the UNC path.
OfficeXP worked fine after rebooting the DC, but I still
got no clue what happened exactly. Now it's SP2.

Here's my problem. I extracted the August 10th version of
SP2 Network Install with the /x switch, put it on the
network, and create a machine-assigned GPO software
installation package, using network UNC path (with read
access only) pointing to the msi file. Updated the policy
on a machine, and rebooted it. It will enter the GUI mode
on reboot, start applying machine based policy, and try to
install SP2. Checked the eventlog, assignment was fine,
then the actual installation is where things screwed up.
The details of the event (on the XP machine) is the
following bunches of text.

---
Product: Windows XP Service Pack 2 (1033) -- Error 1722.
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A
program run as part of the setup did not finish as
expected. Contact your support personnel or package
vendor. Action AdminRunSetupMin, location:
\\************\*********\*****\***\i386\update\Update.exe,
command: /q /z /msi

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
---

I would really appreciate it if someone shed some light
and help me out. It's really fustrating.

Thank you.

Dan
