The information you provided is a little bit short.
Are you trying to upgrade Windows XP to Service Pack 3
or is something else?

Exactly what do you want to upgrade to? XP Professional? Vista?
Windows 7?

Why do you want to upgrade?

if your machine is still
on xp sp1,

it is unlikely that you can
upgrade to the vista o.s.
without additional expenditure
with upgrading the hard
ware to support it.

and upgrading from xp
to win7 cannot be done,

because you would have
to wipe away xp off the
disk completely.

perhaps, you ought
to try to upgrade to
xp sp3 first.

however, you should really
tune up your disk space,

disable all your anti virals

and be sure you make
a restore point "or"

backup your personal
files first.

Again, upgrade to what? You've told us, in general, where you are now
(WinXP Home SP1 with IE6), but you haven't mentioned where you want to
end up, so we can't very well tell you how to get there.
