Problem ugrading from XP Home to XP Pro

F

Frank32696

Currently using XP Home Edition (Upgraded from Win 2000).
Just purchased XP Pro Upgrade w/sp2.
Inserted CD and clicked on Install Windows XP.

Windows Setup Error 1:
Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is
newer than the version on the CD.

Windows Setup Error 2:
Setup cannot continue because upgrade functionality is disabled and your
copy of Windows XP only allows upgrades.

Specifications clearly stated that I could upgrade from XP Home edition
without clean install. Have too many programs installed on current version
to consider a clean install.

Any workarounds - solutions?

Thanks in advance for help!!

You have SP3 installed? Uninstall it, then upgrade.

The problem is that you probably have SP3 on the Home install and the CD
you have for Pro is SP2. You'll have to slipstream SP3 into your copy of
XP Pro or clean install. You could also try uninstalling SP3 on the Home
install.

The Upgrade disk must be at the same Service Pack level as the install is or
it won't work. You will have to uninstall Service Pack 3, IE8 and /or IE7
before you can upgrade.

You have SP3 installed? Uninstall it, then upgrade.

OR perhaps (if he doesn't have SP3 installed) he had already updated his
system with some other windows updates, and that's preventing it?
In which case he could presumably uninstall those updates to get it back to
a level that the upgrade CD wouldn't balk at. (not sure, just a
suggestion)
