XP SP1 Home Addition Recovery Console Problem

I'm unable to get into my PC. I created XP SP1 Recovery Console disks and it loaded fine. I used the R option and it asked for a Administrator password. I hit enter and it asked again, I typed administrator and it asked again. Anyway, the bottom line is I don't know what password to use. When I was reading the document it stated the problem I had and said to use the recovery console but I can't get pass the password. My HP system didn't come with a recovery CD or system CD. Everything is on the hard drive. I talked to HP last Friday night and they are suppose to be sending me a recovery CD. I hope.... I did some reading and if I can get pass the password problem I can get get to the files to do a recovery from a known restore point date. Thanks for any help.

Hi

With XP Pro, you will need to use the password you created during the
installation. For XP Home, try leaving the password blank.

Thanks for replying Will! I did use return for the password at first and it went in fine. I did the backups of the system, sam, security and software files and from c:\windows\system32\config folder to c:\windows\tmp folder. I ran into a problem with copying the system file as it wasn't there. There was only a system bak file so I copied this to the TMP folder. I then copyed the files from c:\windows\repair folders to the C;\windows\system32\config folder. When the computer came up it went into windows but the mouse wouldn't work so I couldn't do anything. I got this brainy idea that since the original error message I got was a corrupted or missing windows\system32\config\system file that I would use the recovery console again and copy all the backup files I created back to the c:\windows\system32\config folder except for the system file since it was the one I had problems with. Well when I did that hitting return no longer worked for the password. Thus my problem. I guess I might have to wait to receive a recovery disk from HP?... Again, thanks for responding.

Hi

You 'should' be able to re-access RC with a blank password - unless one the
system files is corrupt.

It must be corrupt then. I can't get pass the password. I guess I'll have to wait for the recovery disk to be sent me. Thanks again for responding.
