This new service pack is offered on the windows update site but will not
download over SP I. Please some one advise hot to get this RC 2. Will the SP
2 RC I have to be ununstalled before one can get the RC II ?
If yes, please also advise how to uninstall the SP I.
Thanks & Regards,

farid

To download it requires that you first install the new version of 'BITS'
- Background Intelligent Transfer. But it is a major download, which
may hang and time out more than once. Then at the end it (around 100
MB) it will appear to do nothing for quite a long time (maybe ten
minutes)whiole it unpacks files, before coming up with its install
wizard.

And it is not correct that it will not install over SP1, though it will
not on systems with illegitimate Product Keys

I would though at this stage suggest holding off for the final version
rather than install this and have to do it all over again. And aim at
getting a CD rather than such a major download unless you have a fast
broadband connection (in which case I would get the complete version
rather than this install via update)

Are Microsoft taking advance orders for the CD?

Not yet. I expect they will open a site when the formal release takes
place. And I hope to see other means of distribution; ideally I would
like to see a bucket of CDs near supermarket checkouts, as you see with
ISP's install disks

Thanks for the info - just as I would like to see places such as PC World,
Dixons, Comet etc give each purchaser of a new PC a 5 minute (and that is
all it would take) talk on the need for, and the practicalities of, Internet
security!
