XP sound not working

O

Old Geaser

This problem is something I can live with, but would like to get it working.
Problem just started. I do not remember making any sound changes. I have
been trying other email programs. (Always come back to Outlook Express)

Using XP home. I can use the sound program to play midi files. Sound
works
playing games. In Sound and audio I have startup xp, shutdown xp, and
get
mail all check and they work when using the test button.

When I start up the computer it does not play the startup midi. Same for
shutdown and when I get mail.

In sound & audio ---Sound ---sound scheme is set at windows default.
in audio it shows the sound program I am using. Any suggestion to where I
should start looking. I do not want to do a system restore just for this.
Thanks in advance.
