I agree but from my experince intelect only gets insulted
when it runs into intellect. ;)

oh isn't that the truth!
Well I'm glade of that because that's what I thoth, too.
But you seemed upset the last few posts?
Hard to hear a web page. :)

nope... not at all, least of all with you, you seem really laidback,
probably just my emphatic commentary that throws some people off
It's not pot. It's not the grammer (wll maybe a little.)
but it's late nights and no spell checker.
Besides, you're the one with the accents.
Maybe your English came from a book that needed a Service
Pack? No one has talked that formal on the west coast
since 1958. ;)

me... formal? no way, not my style at all, but i try to be clear when i
speak, lest i be misunderstood.
I will try to be more formal and detail in my dumbed down
responses to panicing kids with broke puters so you can
read my grammer. :P

formal is for stuffy type-A personalities, besides, i'm getting accustomed
to your 'uneek' writing style. ;-)
Love and Hugs,
Have a Nice day, :)

awww... tanx, ur a sweeetie ;-)

ciao

I installed SP 2 on a newer machine with an Athlon AMD 64
bit chip.

On rebooting I could only go to safe mode.

I uninstalled SP 2 and still had the same problem.

Happily, at least, system restore works.

SP 2 has got to be one of the worse viruses out there.

When will Microsoft stop using its whole customer base as
beta testers?

The SP2 you downloaded is not for the 64bit CPUs. Not the Intel nor
the AMD. Perhaps if you had bothered to read the instructions prior
to installing the service pack, you would have known that.

That's not fair. There are probably as many people who have
had problems with SP2 as those who haven't.

Ridiculous. A vast majority have NO problems.

Go to any
major IT news site and you will find plenty of articles about
SP2 problems.

Read the articles craefully and you'll find that all are very obscure cases.
And... If You installed software that was supposed to "Fix" your PC, but instead
crashed it, you'd be pissed too.

I just wish people would think twice about installing these MS service
packs. There is a long history of these hit or miss installs.

Pure nonsense.

them a break!! How difficult must it be to provide an OS that will work
flawlessly on an almost infinite variety of configurations. Stop whinging

Every PC is unique, even the same model off an assembly line if you
consider electronic tolerance levels for resistors, capacitors, etc.
Just like a fingerprint. Now add the menu of software that folks have
added then the many different types of cards and perifs and yes,
infinite variety.

'smart' people know this

Then how did you find out?

afaik, the 64bit edition of XP is only available as a preview, not generally
available yet. and i also doubt that that SP2 (x86 32bit) would even
install on a 64bit version of Windows without generating an error the moment
the service pack updater was launched. obviously SP2 was coded to detect
that it's being installed on the correct version of Windows, and quit if
not.

Maybe I do .... maybe I don't ... but when I was much younger (about 50
years ago) when you damaged someone's property you paid for it ... your
parents made you ... the police made sure that is was paid for .... now days
you can't even talk rough to the kids out there with out some bleeding heart
running to their aid ... if you make the virus, adware, malware writers paid
for the damages then great ... but in this country that would be impossible
..... tooo many bleeding hearts around .... but you know what would happen to
all those "punks" if the things they do were made a felony punishable by
death ... well if they did get caught ... they wouldn't do it again .....
and I am sure their buddies would think twice about messing with someone's
property ....

Yes this computer is my property, the hardware, the software and
configuration of this computer belong to me ... when these "punks alter it
with their junk or in any way impede my freedom to use my computer ... when
anyone infringes on my freedom in anyway, well I tend to revert back to the
trained Marine I was in 'Nam ... Maybe hanging is not nice ... but like they
used to say in the "old"west ... they get sometime to think about what they
did wrong on the way down .....

I have spent a lot of money on my computer and the extra hardware attached
to it ... I do not like buying software to allow me to go on to the internet
in "Safety" because the "punks" out there can exercise a few of his
remaining brain cells and write code .... Remember your freedom to "play
around on the internet" ends when you infringe on my freedom ... I like so
many other Vets fought and many have died to give you the right to speak
your mind ... but I didn't fight and almost lose my life to give these
"punks" the right to hack and write code for virus's .... they are breaking
the laws of this country ... when you break the law you should pay ...

what do you think should be the penalty for writing a virus that causes 10's
of millions of dollars of damage? ... a slap on the hand ... probation with
a promise not to do it again ... I am not sure if they would even care what
damage they did ... because they would be back at it in a matter of weeks
...... You want the problem solved ... then make the punishment the harshest
there is ....
