XP Service Pack 2

My Norton Anti Virus 2008 requires SP2 on my XP system before I can install it.
From the Microsoft site, I start to download SP2. All goes well 'till I get
a message saying the installation can't be completed, and everything is being
un-installed. I get no reason or error message. Fortunatly my system works
after the un-install.
Any ideas what's wrong or how I can go forward with SP2. I need to get the
Anti Virus definitions up-to-date.

I'd suggest you try asking in a newsgroup dedicated to either WinXP or
Windows Update. This is a Vista newsgroup.

Don't you just love smart ass people, this is a vista newsgroup, you so far
behind the times. Well as for your help with xp sp2, I will make a
suggestion and see what you think. By the way I still use XP and we are not
behind the times we are up to date Thank you vary much.
1. Download SP2 save it to your hard drive.
2. Turn internet off Uninstall Norton
3. Install SP2
4. Reinstall Norton
5. Turn on internet, update and your ready to go.
This is what I did with the same problem. Stay tune for another episode of
XP in the Vista room. Ye Ha

Use Windows Update to bring XP current with all of the patches/security
fixes. This you should do regardless of using Norton AV 2008 or not. Once
the updates are all done you can instlal Norton AV 2008 but if it were my
system, I wouldn't let Norton software near it. Norton "gets its hooks"
right into the operating system. I don't know about the latest version but
the other versions took a performance hit from the system, I imagine that
the new one will too. You have the option of using Avast! Antivirus which
is free for any home user. I find it a better option than Norton (and
McAfee for that matter).

David, I use XP Pro most of the time, including posting here.
He is behind the times as he has not had Auto updates turned on, or(as I
use) Notify me of updates.

So, he is a raving nutcase whose comp is 4 years out of date(behind the
times).
